Diesel scrappage scheme offers drivers THOUSANDS for their old VW car

VW is offering drivers up to €10,000 euros off the price of their new car by getting them to trade in their old diesel.

This follows a deal with German manufacturers to improve the software on over five million diesel cars to improve emissions.

The new scheme, which is currently only available in Germany, offers diesel drivers between €2,000 and €10,000 off core VW vehicles.

Audi drives can also benefit from between a €3,000 €10,000 and Porsche drivers up to €5,000.

Other subsidiaries of Volkswagen, including Skoda and Seat, will be offering discounts of their own, it has been confirmed.

In addition to the discount from the new model, drivers will also enjoy incentives of up to €1,000 to €2,380, provided they choose to buy more energy efficient vehicles such as hybrid, electric and natural-gas powered.

The backlash from the VW emissions scandal has led to looming bans of diesel cars across the world.

After the revelation of the cheated emissions scandals which affected 11 million vehicles worldwide, car makers have made an effort to remove more polluting vehicles off the road.

Analysts at Evercore ISI said that they expected more scrap-pga scheme across Europe following those that are taking place in Germany.

“Over the last few days, Europe has experienced a wave of significant… scrapping headlines that will likely lead to meaningful incremental buying activity and the replacement of old diesel vehicles,” they said.

“So far, actions are largely related to German [manufacturers]… We assume that more non-German brands will follow.”
