Diabetes type 2 symptoms include producing cloudy urine.
“Some diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease, affect other body systems in addition to the urinary tract and may cause your pee to appear cloudy,” said Clinical Nutritionist Dr Josh Axe on his website.
“The colour, odour and amount of urine can indicate whether something is wrong,” he continued, discussing diabetes symptoms in the toilet.
“The ideal healthy urine colour is a straw yellow colour, and anything darker or lighter – like cloudy urine – may indicate that you have a health issue on your hands, such as a urinary tract infection.”
Cloudy urine could, however, be an indicator of other health problems such as kidney disease and a bacterial infection.
Writing online, a group of diabetes experts called The Diabetes Council said cloudy urine could be caused by a “bacterial infection”.
“Urine that is cloudy may be due to a bacteria infection in the urinary tract, or it could also be due to kidney stones,” they continued.
Everyday Health, in addition, said cloudy urine could indicate a problem with phosphates, rather than as a sign of diabetes type 2.
“Cloudy urine has been found to suggest the presence of phosphates, which can be a precursor to kidney stones.
“Cloudiness can also indicate an infection,” they continued. “If cloudiness worsens and you experience burning or urgency, make sure to see a doctor.”
Diabetes type 2 symptoms affecting urination include peeing “more than usual”, according to the NHS.
They add this may occur more often at night.
“Feeling thirsty all the time, feeling very tired, and losing weight could also be a warning sign,” they continued online.
“Itching around your penis or vagina, or repeatedly getting thrush, may also be a sign.”
“Many people have diabetes type 2 without realising,” they said. “This is because symptoms don’t necessarily make you feel unwell.”
The Mayo Clinic also considered urinating more often as a symptom of diabetes type 2.
“Excessive thirst and increased urination are classic diabetes symptoms,” they said.
“When you have diabetes, excess sugar builds up in your blood. Your kidneys are forced to work overtime to filter and absorb the excess sugar.
“If your kidneys can’t keep up, the excess sugar is excreted into your urine, dragging along fluids from your tissues.
“This triggers more frequent urination, which may leave you dehydrated. As you drink more fluids to quench your thirst, you’ll urinate even more.”
