Dancing On Ice 2018: Alex Beresford’s place in JEOPARDY after gaining brutal illness

After being welcomed back by colleague Ben Shephard, the 37-year-old explained that he was struck down with the flu over Christmas.

Alex said on Good Morning Britain: “I had the worst case of that Australian Flu and I have never ever had flu like that.

“I will never use the term ‘man flu’ again,” he laughed.

However, it seems that the ailment could have had dire consequences for Dancing On Ice as well.

Alex added: “I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to make the show on Sunday because every day I would wake up and I would feel worse.

“Literally, I’ve been in bed for eight days straight. I’ve missed two rehearsals this week.”

Ben, 43, joked at Alex’s expense: “So hold on, our entire GMB credibility is based on you skating on Sunday and not being hopeless.”

However, Alex reassured him that he was trying to get himself strong for the show’s return this weekend.

The weatherman had previously said that he hopes his stint on the show will get him more work in television.

He explained: “I just enjoy working in television and don’t want to be boxed off as the weather guy, I know I can do more than just present the weather so I’d love to do other shows as well.

“It’s been a great experience and there are so many people that I look up to in this industry who are doing more than one thing.

“I’m looking forward to the potential opportunities that could come from being in other people’s living rooms each weekend,” he added.

Dancing On Ice returns to ITV this Sunday at 6pm.
