’Damaging the royal brand’ Carole Malone attacks Duke and Duchess of Sussex

Today’s edition of Jeremy Vine saw discussion surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step back as senior royals and become financially independent become incredibly heated. Carole explained she felt Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision was “damaging” to the royal brand.

Jeremy commented: “There are certain things that are not royal but celebrity.”

“This does nothing but improve and sustain the royal brand,” Pat Kane commented.

But Carole did not agree as she cut in: “It really doesn’t. It does the opposite.”

“They announced their change of status on Instagram,” Pat continued.

The heated topic comes just days after one caller into the show explained they felt the Queen had taken “too much” from Harry.

Prince Harry spoke at a charity evening for Sentebale in London on Sunday night saying there was “really no other option” but to step back.

Calling into the Channel 5 panel show on Monday morning, Deborah from Southampton said she was “incandescent with rage” over how Meghan and Harry had been treated.

“Yeah, you know he lost his mum, he served his country in Afghanistan and elsewhere,” she began.

“He was loyal to the monarchy and all he wanted to do was look after his family.

“And, that’s been taken away, so much have been taken away from him.

“I’ve always prided myself on being a royalist but quite frankly at this point, shame on them.”

She added: “I think everyone bullied him.”

Jeremy Vine on 5 airs weekdays on Channel 5 at 9.15am.
