Cruise news – Royal Caribbean adds LIFEGUARDS to every ship

Passengers on board the Oasis of the Seas vessel may have noticed a few new crew members hanging around by the pool.

The licensed lifeguards are just one feature of Royal Caribbean’s new water safety program, which is being implemented fleet wide.

The new program will also see the introduction of water safety instruction signs throughout the ship.

“We are a family brand,” Royal Caribbean’s manager of corporate communications Lyan Sierra-Caro told Cruise Critic.

She said that pool-based activities are an “important aspect of the cruise vacation for all guests and we are doing everything we can to ensure they have the safest vacation possible.”

The lifeguards, who will be dressed in bright red and white uniforms, will be stationed at every pool, including the Solarium, during opening hours.

They have been trained through the cruise line’s partnership with StarGuard Elite, based in Florida.

The water safety program will also include a 15 minute presentation for children and parents, during the Adventure Ocean open house session on embarkation day.

Although swim vests are readily available for kids aged four to 12, additional signage will be added around the pool areas and in cabins to encourage parents to use them.

Ryan added that lifeguards have not been hired to replace parents watching their children whilst in the pool.

Children under the age of 12 will still require a parent or guardian to be present when swimming in any pool.

The entire water safety program is set to be rolled out across all Royal Caribbean cruise ships over the next four months, starting with Oasis of the Seas.

The story comes after Express.co.uk revealed that less than a half of all travel insurance policies will cover a cruise holiday.

With Spring literally just around the corner, many people are now starting to think about their summer holidays.

Around 1.8 million Brits set sail on a cruise holiday every year.

And whether you are cruising around the Mediterranean, the Caribbean or Asia, many assume that their standard travel insurance policy will cover them.
