Countryfile host Anita Rani shocks viewers with cliff edge segment: 'No f**king chance'

The host travelled to Portland’s coastal cliffs to see if she could catch a sight of a swallow migrating back to Britain.

In order to get the best view of the birds, she joined Eddie Young on a porta-ledge which was set up 100 ft above crashing waves.

Eddie regularly takes people over the edge of the cliff in order to watch the birds flying above.

And in tonight’s Countryfile Anita faced her fears and joined him on the ledge as she abseiled down the cliff.

“I’m looking at you and I’m smiling because I’m slightly delirious,” Anita told Eddie.

“That’s a sheer cliff face.”

Eddie assured her that her fears were “completely natural” as she bravely made her way down to ledge.

Once she reached Eddie Anita exclaimed that the view was incredible.

“I’m hanging on the edge of a cliff on a bed, I can’t believe where we are,” she noted.

“This is a perspective I’ve never seen in life before.”

But viewers were quick to note that they would not be joining Anita on the edge of the cliff.

One fan of the BBC show commented: “@BBCCountryfile @itsanitarani rather you than me, 100ft up on the side of a cliff #countryfile.”

Another added: “No f**king chance. No way. Never gonna volunteer to hang off a cliff like that. Crazy people. #countryfile.”

“#Countryfile Oh my goodness. That looks amazing but so scary,” a third wrote.

Someone else continued: “#countryfile Why not just sit on the top?”

A fifth simply continued: “Careful Anita #countryfile.”

Tonight’s episode also saw Ellie Harrison meet the designer who is creating a celebratory 30th anniversary Countryfile garden for the Hampton Court Flower Show.

Meanwhile, John craven explored the legacy of the Edwardian naturalist and photographer Emma Turner.

Countryfile airs Sunday on BBC One at 7pm.
