Countdown: Rachel Riley and Susie Dent awkwardly swerve THIS filthy word – but fans can't

Player Neil flashed a smirk as he offered up the word “fapped” during the latest instalment of the Channel 4 show.

Unlike those watching at home, the stars of the long-running program, including host Nick Hewer, failed to acknowledge his shocking suggestion with many taking to Twitter to comment.

For the uninitiated, fapped is the past tense of fap which means to masturbate.

Following the 2014 iCloud leak, which saw private pictures of celebrities emerge, it became known by many as The Fappening.

“Countdown just glossing over the definition for ‘fapped’ there and moving on quickly,” one user commented.

Two others continued: “Excuse me, did the man on Countdown just come up with fapped?” and: “Someone on Countdown got the word ‘fapped’ and got completely ignored.”

The micro-blogging site was flooded with posts about the awkward moment, with a fourth reading: “@RachelRileyRR Lol ‘Fapped’ Good swerve there.”

“Ha! Someone on Countdown got the word ‘fapped’ and Dictionary Corner completely ignored it,” another post stated.

It comes after Rachel, 31, was left blushing after her boyfriend, Strictly Come Dancing’s Pasha Kovalev, spelt out another rude word on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old told Nick: “Well there is a little bit longer word. It is Phallus.”

Countdown airs weekdays at 2.10pm on Channel 4.
