Coronation Street's Catherine Tyldesley to HOST Blind Date after 'secret talks'

The 33-year-old ITV star will make the switch to rival broadcaster Channel 5 when the matchmaking show returns with a revamp.

Hoping to become the new Cilla Black, soap regular Catherine has allegedly been in “secret talks” with telly bosses who want her to present the dating programme.

Catherine, who plays Eva Price in Coronation Street, is said to have put herself forward for the job after co-star Helen Flanagan was rumoured to be in the running.

An insider at the studios told the Daily Star: “Cath is very keen to be the host of Blind Date. Everyone knows she would be the perfect package.”

Cilla fronted the hit show for almost two decades before announcing that she was leaving while live on air back in 2003.

The new show will be produced by So Television, the makers of The Graham Norton Show, alongside part-owned Sony Pictures Television company Stellify Media.

Channel 5 bosses are keeping tight-lipped on the new host, but will face strong competition against ’s Take Me Out and Meet The Parents.

Other names for the presenter role have included Olly Murs and former actress Georgia May Foote.

Another mega super-star rumoured for the role is Kylie Minogue, following her recent split from fiancé Joshua Sasse.

A source said: “Blind Date is the original dating show and it’s huge news to bring it back.

“It’s a classic format that will be rebooted to make it young, sexy and modern. Expect sparks to fly.”

The insider told The Sun: “In an age of Tinder, you have got to earn the right to love on this show.”

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Catherine requesting comment.
