At the end of last year, Geoff Metcalfe (played by Ian Bartholomew) and Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) returned to the cobbles announcing they had got married in Las Vegas. Since then, Geoff’s grip of Yasmeen’s life has increased dramatically, leaving ITV soap fans calling for Coronation Street bosses to cancel the storyline.

The evil Geoff hit new lows this week as he took Yasmeen’s credit cards a way in a new ploy to keep her from going out with her friends.
But Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill) is starting to get suspicious because Yasmeen keeps cancelling their plans telling her that she needs to clean the house again.
Last week saw Cathy tell Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) that she was going to confront Yasmeen if she kept cancelling.
What she didn’t know was that Geoff had got angry when Yasmeen said who she wanted to see, making her feel guilty for not staying at home with him.
Taking Yasmeen’s cards is just another way Geoff is trying to control his wife, but it seems he might be about to be exposed for his months of abuse.
Coronation Street boss, Ian MacLeod told RadioTimes.com: “The imprisonment is sometimes more literal, with the abuser controlling their partner’s access to money, when they leave the house and who they see – even what and when they eat.
“We will be exploring all these aspects of this complex and important social issue in coming episodes, as Geoff’s strangle-hold on Yasmeen tightens”.
“Controlling behaviour is a spectrum and I really hope that, at the less insidious end, the storyline will have a positive effect on viewers’ attitudes to their loved-ones.”
After all, Geoff might have an abusive side, but the reason he is currently getting away with it is because he is good at convincing her that he is only doing it out of love.
Ian Bartholemew recently admitted: “He (Geoff) has convinced himself that this is possibly his last chance, if he doesn’t get this right he wouldn’t know what to do, he can’t bear to be on his own, he can’t bear not to be loved.
“It is as much being loved as it is loving. He loves the idea of being in love, he doesn’t know what it is or how to do it but he wants to love and be loved. Geoff is desperate to be loved.
“We don’t know much about Geoff’s previous relationship but I am sure this is not the first time he has behaved like this in a relationship, because of that need to be loved, that need to be in control.”
Can Cathy show Yasmeen what her husband has really been doing or is she about to lose her friend for good to an abuser?
Viewers have since been calling for the bosses at Coronation Street to cancel the storyline altogether, one tweeted: ““This storyline with Geoff needs to end, it’s actually unbearable to watch!! Poor Yasmeen, someone kill him! #Corrie.”
“When is this Geoff abusing Yasmeen storyline coming to an end! It’s awful!!! #Corrie.” said another.
One claimed: “Horrible watching that bully bastard Geoff with Yasmeen. Makes me cringe #coronationstreet.”
But how will the story end? Will Geoff become the victim in all of this when Yasmeen realises the horror house she has been living in?
