Commonwealth Day: Liam Payne snubs his own music as he calls for 'united nation'

The former One Direction singer is set to perform live at the event later today and ahead of taking to the stage he spoke about the importance of having a united nation.

Revealing his choice of song, Liam divulged: “So today I will be performing John Mayer, Waiting on the World to Change.

“I think it’s quite apparent for the way that the world is at the moment and I’m also a big fan of John Mayer. I think this is the perfect occasion for it.”

The former star went on to add: “I went down to the presentation and it was so nice to see so many young people doing so many amazing things, you know, across nations.

“It’s so important for us to show a nice united front right now and coming from the youth is a really beautiful thing I guess.”

Following his brief appearance, many of those tuning into the service noted how professional he sounded.

“He sounded so articulate and proper #CommonwealthDay,” one viewer wrote.

Another added: “Liam looks amazing OMG.”
