Comedian John Bishop on switching to ‘dramatic’ acting: ‘It’s a challenge’ (EXCLUSIVE)

“Because I think it’s a bit of a leap then for the audience, and it’s a bit of a challenge for me.”

He added: “As a comedian people expect you to say something funny, so it’s nice to have something that goes against that.”

Fearless – which he called “so tightly written” – was a hit for ITV, and saw him playing the boyfriend of lead character Emma Banville (Helen McCrory).

Bishop has a long line of comedy dates set for this month, with work-in-progress shows at the Edinburgh Fringe from August 12-25.

He’s then in Bristol, Leicester, Stoke, Oxford, Aylsesbury and Northampton before the Winging It Tour starts proper in Cork on September 19 and runs through to December.

Fearless is out now on DVD.
