Cheap flights: THIS is how you could fly to Japan, Florida, Peru and more for UNDER £800

Brandon, who blogs about financial independence and retiring early, discovered a way of travelling the world for three months on the cheap.

The finance guru managed to retire at just 34 and decided to see more of the world.

His journey, consisting of flights to 14 countries on four continents cost Brandon just £760.

He saved over £4,000 in total on these flights – but how did he do it?

Sharing his tactics on the Mad Fientist blog, Brandon revealed it was all down to frequent flyer miles which were obtained from free credit card sign-up bonuses.

His trip started in Manchester, taking in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Panama in South America before flying to Orlando in the United States.

From there Brandon travelled to Japan, Taiwan, China, Thailand, Qatar, Oman, UAE and Jordan.

Much of the cost of these flights was covered by Brandon’s free air miles, which he got for signing up to certain credit cards.

Brandon created a credit card search tool specifically for travel hackers back in 2011, which breaks down which are the best for free air miles, plus annual fees and foreign transaction fees.

Using a Central/South America redemption with United, Brandon was able to take five flights across South America using just 20,000 miles.

He was also able to take seven flights starting in Japan and finishing in Jordan using just 30,000 miles with American Airlines.

In addition to paying very little for the flights, Brandon was able to fly business or first class on seven legs of the journey.

Brandon freely admits that the way he was able to travel so cheaply was through hours of meticulous research and planning.

However, he says if you’re new to the air miles game, there are some simple tricks to try.

When you know where you want to go, Brandon suggests putting those details into the Award Hacker website (awardhacker.com). This will determine which type of miles you’ll need for the journey.

The second part of the process is to use his credit-card search tool to find the card you should apply for to get the air miles you need for free.
