Charlie's Angels reboot lines up LEAST sexy actress ever? Are they joking?

It is one of the most fun and frothy franchises to ever hit the screens big and small.

One of the very first female-fronted entertainment blockbusters, it has always relied on a heady (and somewhat dated) mix of sweet sexiness and tongue-in-cheek silliness.

Which makes the latest casting news coming out of Hollwood truly a mystery that even Charlie couldn’t solve, with or without his beloved Angels.

One of cinema’s most famous young stars is being set up to front the new reboot, but she is not exactly notorious for being playful.

Charlie’s Angels first became a global sensation back in 1976. During its five-year run it made internationall sex symbols of Farah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd.

Two decades later the angels flew again in the 2000 big screen reboot starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. The sequel upped the ante by reintroducing a spectacularly in-shape Demi Moore as a big screen icon once more.

It’s very hard to picture the latest leading lady filling the bikini-clad role in teh same way.

Banks’ reboot is scheduled for a summer 2019 release and Variety is reporting that permanently po-faced  Kristen Stewart is in the running.

Variety said: “The Twilight star would play one of the members of the female private detective agency.

“Stewart’s is not the only name being considered. Casting is underway, and Sony is also interested in several other big names, including Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o.”

Variety added: “It’s slated for a summer 2019 release, and Sony clearly has franchise hopes for the project.”

While Stewart is increasingly highly regarded as an actress, she is not exactly known for playing lighthearted and playfully sexy roles.

It will be interesting (and potentially catastrophic) if she takes on the project to try someying new. It will be disastrous if Stewart’s association indicates a new, more seriosu reboot of teh franchise.

Banks, however, has shown a sure hand with the Pitch Perfect series, so the mystery remains to be solved…
