What is your most memborable holiday?
My last holiday to Jamaica in December. I have lots of family there and there is nothing like spending Christmas on the beach. It makes it all the sweeter when you are talking to people back home and you are sending them pictures of yourself having cocktails in the sunshine.
I have tried to do Christmas on the beach for most years, whether it is in Barbados, Thailand or Dubai.
I like the energy of Jamaica, the music, the culture, and the food.
I went along to a concert by a friend of mine, Shaggy, at Kingston, which was a fundraiser for a children’s hospital and ended up meeting Sting there.
And your worst?
I arranged for my family to go and stay for a month in Ko Samui in Thailand about five years ago.
We hired a big luxury villa with a pool and chef, which was up in the mountains but it rained all the time.
We kept hoping the weather would improve but it didn’t and in the end we decided to go home early.
Just before we left, we discovered that it was only raining in the mountains. It turns out it was beautiful weather down at sea level.
Best Souvenir?
I lived in Cyprus for two or three years and we found a young dog, which was very ill as it was choking from a metal collar on its neck.
It survived, and when I came back to the UK, the dog came too.
She has been with us ever since.
Best holiday read?
Outwitting The Devil, by Napoleon Hill.
I have read it a couple of times when I have been away.
It is one of those books that you can always pick up and it really makes you think.
I was reading it again when I was in Jamaica last winter.
How do you spend your time on holiday?
I love sitting by the pool, chilling but I have to be a bit active.
I train once a day, either in the gym, or do some sprints or go for a swim.
My son loves tennis, so there is often an hour or two of tennis every day, with me trying to keep up.
I like to try out new restaurants, particularly any based on a beach.
Where would you like to revist?
Mustique, in the Caribbean.
I went a couple of years ago, as a friend owns a home there.
It is very private, as there are so few people around, and it’s stunningly beautiful.
Where next?
Mykonos, where a friend of mine has a bar called Bonbonniere.
I’ll probably go for two weeks and take some boat trips around the Greek Islands.
I’ll also be in Amsterdam during summer for a weekend break.
