Producers previously teased that a major character was going to be killed off on the BBC medical drama, with many people concluding it would be Dr Lily Chao (played by Crystal Yu), who was hit by a car last week.
However, in tonight’s instalment, Lily was taken to hospital where she appeared to be recovering from the accident.
In a turn of events which few saw coming, it was Cal (Richard Winsor) who met his maker after being stabbed to death in a violent attack by Scott Ellisson.
Cal had gone to face off against the gang member in the pouring rain in order to protect his brother Ethan (George Rainsford), who Scott believed was responsible for the death of his father.
As Cal was declared dead in the hospital ward, those watching at home were left devastated.
One social media user said: “#casualty OMG crying my eyes out why did they have to kill cal off Ethan broke my heart.”
“@MissCrystalYu I’m really glad Lily isn’t dead and really depressed that Cal is. #Casualty is the most unpredictable show I’ve ever seen,” another added.
A third shocked fan exclaimed: “I can’t believe that cal is dead wtf #casualty (sic)”
Meanwhile actor Richard took to Twitter after the episode aired, writing: “It’s been emotional! Thanks for all your support guys. Love this character and show. #ripcal #casualty @georgerainsford.”
