Captain Marvel: Brie Larson SLAMS Wonder Woman comparisons – ‘Why is there pressure?’

The Oscar-winning Room star insisted that women have long been capable of carrying box office-smashing films, and the superhero genre should be no different.

“I mean, I feel pressure in that it’s a character that people love and are inspired by and I see that, and so I want to do right by that,” she told ET. ”And I want people to feel like their character is honoured.

“But from the female standpoint? I don’t understand why there’s pressure put on women.”

She added: ”As if it’s the most shocking concept ever that a woman can open a movie!

“It’s like, it’s kind of a tired concept. We’ve proved it for a long time!

“So I don’t feel pressure in that way at all.”

Larson’s casting was generally well-received by fans – including Samuel L Jackson, who’ll join her in the cast.

Asked by ET what he’s most looking forward to about the film, he said: “Hanging out with Brie! Brie’s my girl.”

Wonder Woman, released in June, is the highest-grossing film ever directed by a woman, having made over $ 788 million worldwide.

A sequel will follow on December 13, 2019.
