Britain's Got Talent hosts Ant and Dec THRILL crowds in matching suits for series opener

The Geordie duo were seen looking smart in dark suits as they stood at a podium to speak to the crowds that had gathered in the capital.

Gymnasts and cheerleaders performed behind them as they filmed the opening sequence for the eleventh season of Simon Cowell‘s reality show.

The public square was decked out patriotically in a sea of Union Jack colours as a marching band, stilt-walkers and dancers joined the shoot.

Ant and Dec later thanked those who turned out for the spectacular display.

“Thanks to all who came along, you were brilliant! D,” Dec wrote on the pair’s joint Twitter page.

Cowell has recently signed a three-year deal with ITV that will keep Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor on screens until at least 2019.

ITV’s director of television Kevin Lygo said: “Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor are both big, brilliant, wonderful shows.

“I am delighted that they will continue to take up their place as an important part of our schedule for the next three years.
