Brendan Cole SHOCK news: Strictly star says 'I've been AXED' in emotional live interview

The professional dancer, who has been with the show since its birth in 2004, choked up as he broke the huge news to the Scottish host.

What’s more, the 41-year-old confirmed that the decision was out of his hands.

“It’s quite hard to talk about,” he said. “The BBC haven’t renewed by contract. I’m in a little bit of shock.

“I have had 15 incredible series, I am proud of the whole show.”

Seemingly taking a swipe at the BBC, he added: “I’m disappointed, it’s very hard to talk about, just a recent decision.

“They make the decision year upon year. I am a very strong character and I have my strong views.”

He won the first Strictly Come Dancing with his partner Natasha Kaplinsky.

Since then he went on to waltz his way through the winter months with the likes of Sarah Manners, Fiona Phillips, Claire King, Kelly Brook, Lisa Snowdon, Jo Wood and Michelle Williams.

Brendan competed with Good Morning Britain host Charlotte Hawkins during the 2017 series, and immediately speculation surrounding his future on Strictly Come Dancing was rife.

His final bout with the ballroom competition was plagued with controversy with reports of a feud with head judge Shirley Ballas.

The pair often came to blows live every Saturday night, with Shirley recently slamming Brendan in an interview with The Sun.

“He’s confrontational. Every other professional was extremely respectful, very well-mannered, ‘How are you Mrs Ballas? You’re doing a good job’.

“He’s going on chat shows saying, ‘I’m her equal’ and this, that and the other. I don’t need to put somebody else down to build myself up.”

Following his interview, the BBC have told Express.co.uk: “We’d like to thank Brendan for being part of the show since the beginning – winner of the first series – and for the contribution he has made to its success. We wish him all the very best for the future.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.
