Former NBC News host Billy Bush revealed in an op-ed for The New York Times on Sunday that seven other people were on the bus during the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape that sent shockwaves throughout the political world during the 2016 presidential campaign.
“Along with Donald Trump and me, there were seven other guys present on the bus at the time, and every single one of us assumed we were listening to a crass standup act,” Bush wrote. “He was performing. Surely, we thought, none of this was real. We now know better.”
It is unclear exactly who those seven people were and how much of the conversation they overheard.
Bush, who was fired from his job as a cohost of the “Today” show in October 2016 for his enthusiastic reaction to Trump’s comments on tape, is back in the headlines after Trump reportedly told aides and a US Senator that he doubted the authenticity of the video.
Trump revisited the tape amid a mounting number of sexual misconduct allegations against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore. Moore is running to fill the seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. On Monday, Trump tweeted that “we need Republican Roy Moore to win in Alabama.”
After the lewd tape came out, Trump admitted the voice was his and apologized for his comments, dismissing them as “locker room banter.” In his op-ed, Bush confirmed that the voice on the tape bragging of grabbing women “by the p—y” was Trump.
“President Trump is currently indulging in some revisionist history, reportedly telling allies, including at least one United States senator, that the voice on the tape is not his,” Bush said. “This has hit a raw nerve in me.”
To date, more than 16 women have accused Trump of sexual misconduct. He has denied all of the allegations.
