Episode four titled ‘Push Comes to Shove’ delved deeper into the life of Celeste (played by Nicole Kidman) and her rocky relationship with husband Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgård).
Their tense and abusive relationship has been seen in all episodes so far, but in the latest instalment viewers saw Perry attempt to control Celeste’s way off life.
In the episode, Madeline Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon) calls on her friend’s lawyer talents to fight back against controversy surrounding the play Avenue Q.
And after stepping back in her old career for a short amount of time, Celeste admits she isn’t satisfied with staying at home raising her children and instead wants to be working.
“I feel so ashamed for saying this but being a mother is not enough for me. It’s just not. It’s not even close,” Celeste says to Madeline.
But later on as she gets ready for another day defending the play, Perry abuses her when he sees her thinking of wanting to return to work as a lawyer.
In a shocking moment, Perry strangles his wife and only stops because one of their sons walked in.
Celeste appears to be distancing herself further away from Perry and is seen discussing her marriage with a counsellor who asks her why she is afraid to talk to her husband.
Will Celeste finally stand up to her husband and leave him? Or will a big fight end up with Perry’s demise at the school fundraiser?
