Best airport for customer service revealed to be in the UK – and it ISN’T in London

The best airport for customer service has been revealed in this year’s Airports Council International’s 2017 Airport Service Quality Awards (ASQ).

Named the “Best Airport by Size and Region that serves between two and five million people,” it recognises airports that offer the best service to passengers.

Surprisingly, the airport that took the number one spot was in the UK.

None of the London airports featured.

Newcastle took the number one spot for the award, beating airports ins Athens, Moscow and Rome.

Nick Jones, the chief executive, commented on the results: “I’m absolutely delighted the airport has won this award.

“Everyone here goes above and beyond to offer an excellent experience for our passengers and it’s great to see that recognised.

“I have no doubt this will spur our colleagues on to continue offering such incredible service to all who travel through the airport.”

It isn’t the only award the airport has won; it has also been named Airport of the Year at the North of England Transport Awards.

It is also on a list of happiest airports in the world, coming in fifth place.

As the second busiest airport in Northern England (just behind Manchester Airport), it handles around 5 million passengers a year.

It reached its peak in 2007 after handling over 5.6 million passengers

The most punctual airport in the world was also revealed last year with the accolade being awarded to another UK airport.

OAG, the world’s leading air travel intelligence company, released its annual Punctuality League.

This award also went to Newcastle in the small airport category, with 90.94 per cent of flights leaving and arriving on time.

Birmingham took the award for medium-sized airports that are on time with 95 per cent of flights included.
