BBC weather forecast: Carol Kirkwood predicts HEAVY rain as strong winds batter Britain

Carol Kirkwood presented the BBC Breakfast weather forecast this morning and reported more rain and strong winds to come this week.

She said: “At the moment we’ve got a cloudy and a wet start to the day. The rain is going to continue to move northwards.

“And then later it will dry up in the south, but then we’re prone to some heavy showers.”

The weather for the week ahead is going to be disappointing for most, as there will be a lot of cloud and further rain.

An easterly wind is responsible for much of the bad weather, therefore, it will be brighter in western part of the UK and across some southern counties.

A huge area of low pressure in the south is going to push rain from Iberia towards the north of the UK.

However, England and Wales will remain relatively dry this afternoon, although there will still be a lot of misty low cloud for a while.

There is expected to be some sunshine in southern England, but heavy showers are likely during the afternoon.

The warmest weather is going to be in the south east of the country in places such as Norwich, London, Cardiff, Plymouth and Birmingham.

Whereas, further north the temperatures are not as high, with some sections still failing to reach double figures, like Lerwick, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Newcastle.

Moving into tomorrow and rain originating from Germany will head towards Britain, affecting the Midlands, Wales and northern England.

Sunshine is possible in the north west of Scotland as well as across southern counties of England.

On Wednesday the temperatures will vary, with it ranging between seven and 15 degrees across the UK.

In Scotland and north east England temperatures will only reach seven or eight degrees as the winds are much stronger here.

Thursday is going to be another wet day for most, with even a few outbreaks of rain in the south east.

Heavy rain is possible on Friday, with Scotland and north east England expected to have the lion’s share of the wet weather.

However, it could brighten up and start to feel a little warmer when the wind eases, but there is still the chance of a few showers in England and Wales.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
