BBC News: ‘What was that!’ Naga Munchetty left embarrassed by Charlie Stayt’s BRUTAL swipe

BBC Breakfast was being hosted by Naga Munchetty, 43, and Charlie Stayt, 56, this morning and things ended up getting a bit heated between the pair.

BBC Breakfast sports presenter Sally Nugent, 47, had just finished presenting her segment on the sporting headlines.

She had just talked about a rather amusing incident involving Liverpool Football Club’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, which spurred Naga to attempt a French accent.

Liverpool are going to play Paris St Germain in Paris this evening in the Champions League, and Jurgen was talking at a press conference before the game.

He then made a remark about his translator’s “erotic” voice, which the BBC newsreaders found slightly amusing.

“Well, may I just say that I was very pleased he enjoyed my translation,” joked Naga in what supposed to be a French accent.

Sally laughed and said: “Was it you?”

Charlie merely looked at his co-host in bemusement and delivered his brutal swipe.

“Sorry, what was that? What was that accent?” he said.

Naga looked back at Charlie in mock anger and chose to ignore her co-host, and opted to talk to Sally instead.

“Sally, that was fun,” said Naga.

“Yeah, exactly,” replied Sally.

“He’s a lovely man, Mr. Klopp,” continued Naga.

“We like Jurgen, don’t we. He’s a bit of fun,” added Sally.

“And he seemed quite relaxed ahead of what is an incredibly pressurised game.”

Naga then decided to clarify to Charlie which accent she was doing earlier on.

“And to be clear it was a French accent, and that’s what Mr. Klopp was listening to. Wasn’t it French into English,” said Naga.

“Ah, I thought there was a Mexican feel to it, but it was an easy mistake,” replied Charlie.

“He [Klopp] was actually listening to a man,” revealed Sally.

“Oh, there you go Charlie,” finished Naga.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
