BBC Breakfast SLAMMED over Theresa May cough coverage: 'Get off her back!'

The Prime Minister’s speech yesterday saw her cough, while her set fell apart and she was handed her P45 by comedian Lee Nelson.

There was clearly one talking point on the Beeb’s morning show, and hosts Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty returned to it time and time again.

Following on from the Prime Minister’s performance at yesterday’s Conservative Party conference in Manchester, the news team set about scrutinising every moment of it, even getting a voice coach on to explain the best way to drink water.

However, viewers didn’t seem to enjoy the coverage, flocking to social media to air their views.

One wrote: “Theresa May none of that was her fault at all. Get off her back #BBCBreakfast why aren’t you slating the ‘comedian’ and the set builder?”

Another added: “I’m no fan of her but are you going to talk about anything the Prime Minister actually said or just concentrate on the cough.”

A third tweeted: “T May spoke for over an hour yet clowns like Mason not interested in the content just that she had a cough… typical bias,” before one more posted :”FFS! She had a cough. She should have gone off stage & had a drink to sort it out, they would have called for her head then.”

What’s more, Stayt, 55, even suffered a bodily blunder of his own after sneezing on air, which also became a point of interest for those tweeting in defence of May.

One viewer insisted: “For goodness sake – surely Charlie needs to be sacked for coughing on TV – Theresa May coughing – non story!”

A second agreed, noticing: “Enough of that cough. You haven’t made such a fuss of Charlie’s massive sneeze!”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
