The first trailer for the Marvel epic showed a massive Lord of the Rings-esque battle in Wakanda with Thanos’ Outriders charging at Black Panther’s army and the Avengers.
Fans had suspected the reason was to protect the Soul Stone, the final Infinity gem to be revealed, but of Avengers Infinity War’s directors has now confirmed it’s another one.
It turns out that Vision, who has the Mind Stone in his head, has been taken to Wakanda for protecton.
After all, the fictional African nation has never been conquered in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, director Anthony Russo said: “Vision is a living MacGuffin.
“Obviously, that raises the stakes because Vision’s life is in danger, and his life is in conflict with Thanos’ goals, so something’s got to give.
“Cap makes the decision to bring [Vision] here to Wakanda.
“Earth is making its last stand to keep the stone from Thanos. It’s the best place to make your last stand.”
Chadwick Boseman, who plays Black Panther, added: “It’s never been conquered, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been challenged.”
Avengers Infinity War will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2018.
