They may have their own TV shows and crossover on Netflix, but The Defenders are still part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
While fans were hoping for the likes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist to pop up in Avengers Infinity War, sadly for them they didn’t.
Nevertheless directors the Russo brothers have revealed they nearly did. Speaking with Variety, Anthony Russo admitted it was certainly discussed.
The director said: “We made the briefest consideration.”
He continued: “When we’re alone in a room with [screenwriters Christopher] Markus and [Stephen] McFeely, we consider every idea.
“We like thinking of everything.
“But it seemed like the story that had been told within the movies was so specific and elaborate already that once we started working through the story, we knew we had our hands full just with this set of characters and narratives.”
And it’s not just those on the Avengers side who thought it best to keep them separate.
Back in 2016 Luke Cage star Mike Colter said: “What we do is really unique.
“We’re adult kind of oriented. We’re not PG-13. We’re not really for the mass audiences, crowd pleasing, family oriented.
“We have sex scenes. We have, you know, adult situations, and while I think it’d be nice to be in the films, I don’t know if we want to dilute what we’re doing that makes us very unique.”
But of course who is to say The Defenders won’t pop up in Avengers 4?
