Arca Announces New Album, Shares First Track to Feature His Voice

There’s a new Arca album creeping our way. In a press release from his new label XL (accompanied by a photo of a naked — except for boots and a damp clay codpiece — Arca), the electronic musician/producer announced that his self-titled follow-up to Mutant will arrive on April 7.

If you feel that the musician’s metallic dances of erotic, ecstatic body horror are already among some of the more intense/alienating listening options out there, just wait until you hear his description of Arca:

Here’s my voice and all my guts: feel free to judge it. It’s like a bullfight: you’re watching emotional violence for pleasure. So this is a character who, almost as a mockery of the transaction, goes uncomfortably deep, into self-mutilation. ‘You want gore? Here’s gore.’

As with much of his work, the music is supplemented by some intriguingly grotesquely artwork by Jesse Kanda. (His album art is above, thrice over.) One aspect of this that’s very different, though, is the presence of Arca’s voice on the just-released hellish lullaby of an opening track, “Piel,” which you can listen to below:

Here’s Arca’s Arca track list:

1. Piel
2. Anoche
3. Saunter
4. Urchin
5. Reverie
6. Castration
7. Sin Rumbo
8. Coraje
9. Whip
10. Desafío
11. Fugaces
12. Miel
13. Child
