The 41-year-old presenting duo announced that SM:TV Live would be returning to television and asked Cat Deeley live on air in Florida if she would join them for a special comeback.
However, the show hosts revealed that they had not cleared this with ITV commissioners and had an awkward meeting upon touching back down in the UK.
Speaking about the relaunch to Express.co.uk, Ant chuckled: “ITV have just agreed…”
Laughing about the situation, Dec said: “We came back and ITV said ‘So you’ve commissioned it on air then have you?’” prompting Ant to reveal: “Yeah, we’re in trouble.”
Explaining that ITV have now forgiven them, Dec continued: “But they’re on board now. We’ve had first discussions about it and it looks like it’s going to go ahead.”
Revealing a possible broadcast date to expect, he added: “Not this September, but August or September next year in 2018.”
Excited to get the whole team back together for the relaunch, Ant admitted that they could no longer film in Studio Two at The London Studios as they have now been “changed around”.
He said: “20 years to the year we launched it. We can’t use the same studios unfortunately because it has all been changed around, but we’ll get the team back together and have a bit of fun.”
Talking of their Saturday morning co-host Cat’s return, Dec said: “Cat says yes. We’re going to do it on Saturday mornings I think. 9:25am. Three hours,” as Ant added: “Yes, and an hour of CD:UK. We’ll have a laugh.”
Shocked that it has already been 20 years since they first launched the programme, Dec signed: “We’re in our forties now!”
Ant and Dec return to Britain’s Got Talent this Saturday on ITV at 8pm.
