The talent show came to blows after a disappointing act failed to deliver on the promise of a scintillating magic routine on last night’s instalment.
X Factor boss Simon Cowell, 57, came up with a cheeky way to criticise the act, saying: “I’m kind of imagining that this would be like Mel B’s wedding night…”
The former Spice Girls singer, 42, looked stunned in mock outrage, grabbing her drink and chucking the water over Simon as the audience cheered.
Appearing slightly peeved at his now soaking wet shirt, the judge sat down, before picking up where he left off, adding: “A lot of anticipation, not much promise or delivery.”
The cameras then panned around to Mel, who could be seen storming off the stage and out of the venue to the applause of the crowd.
“Mel B is out,” host Tyra Banks, 43, announced. “This is live TV, y’all. Live TV.”
Mel is currently going through a bitter divorce with her estranged husband Stephen Belafonte, 42.
Luckily, her anger was only in jest and it wasn’t long before she returned to take her place on the judging panel once again in time for the next act.
The show was plagued with technical issues, including one that caused Simon’s criticism using Mel B’s love life as an analogy.
After Mel rejoined the judges, Ukrainian dance act Light Balance weren’t even able to perform due to “technical difficulties”, with the audience and panel forced to watch their incredible dress rehearsal instead.
