The 79-year-old director has previously stated that following Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, the next film in the franchise would be Alien Awakening, set in-between those two movies.
However Scott has now given an update during a recent interview with IGN.
He revealed he is already working on the third film’s script and hopes to begin shooting within the next year or so.
However this won’t be Alien: Awakening, it turns out that was Neill Blomkamp’s planned Alien 5 project, which Scott was going to produce.
The director said: “They wanted to do Alien: Awakening – Neill Blomkamp. I said fine. I was going to be the producer.
“If I could have, I would have. Except I do question – why have both [Blomkamp’s Alien and Scott’s Alien] out there?
“It seems like shooting your big toe off – it doesn’t make sense. But they didn’t go forward with it, Fox, so I just kind of kept out of it.
“I mean, I’d literally ignited this thing to bring it off the ground again, because it was lying there dormant on a shelf. I had this thing to bring it back up – but here we are.”
Scott recently claimed just how scary Alien Covenant is going to be.
“I wanted to really scare the s**t out of people,” he told The Guardian.
“Totally, that’s the job. It’s like if I’m a comedian, I want to make you laugh like hell.
“My day job is to be an entertainer. Some of it is art, but fundamentally I entertain – never forget that.”
Alien: Covenant is released in UK cinemas on May 12, 2017.
