Alex Jones brings The One Show to a standstill as she’s left in tears: ‘I can’t cope’

The One Show’s Alex Jones and Gethin had plenty on the agenda to get through this evening, from a chat with Strictly Come Dancing stars Caroline Quentin and Johannes Radebe to discussing upcoming ITV drama The Sister with actor Russell Tovey. However, it was a touching moment during the show’s weekly ‘One Big Thank You’ segment which brought proceedings to a temporary halt as they struggled to gain their composure.

This week’s ‘One Big Thank You’ went to Steve Harte, a man who does “incredible things” to help those in need in his town of Bromsgrove, according to Alex.

Steve was nominated by his pal Jon Essex, who described him as an “exceptional person” for his voluntary work throughout the pandemic.

Steve has been providing a helping hand to the community as a voluntary first responder for the local ambulance team, as well as chipping in to help the local schools with learning facilities while they were shut in lockdown.

The One Show’s guest also helps with the charity Samaritans as a call-handler in his spare time.

As a result, several community members along with famous faces such as Chris Kamara and Gordon Strachan banded together to show him some appreciation.

In heartwarming scenes, Steve was left in tears as he was overwhelmed with emotion by the sweet gesture.

A tearful Steve extended his gratitude to those who got behind his ‘One Big Thank You’ nomination, saying: “Thank you.

“I do what I do because I just like helping people. I love my school, Charflord Fair School, which I jokingly say to the staff is the best school in the West Midlands.”

“If you go, I go, it’s just -“ Gethin continued, before Alex then weighed in:  “I can’t cope.”

As the two wiped the tears away, they managed to cut to actor Russell, but he too wasn’t prepared for the emotions of Steve’s video.

“I wonder how he’s feeling, are you alright, Russ?” Gethin asked – but the touching segment had clearly gotten to him too.

“Don’t come to me,” he told Gethin. “I wasn’t ready for that.”
