Alec Baldwin 'lobbying' to play Donald Trump at White House dinner amid THOSE SNL sketches

During an appearance on Wednesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actor admitted that he was “lobbying” to be there instead after successfully impersonating the leader on Saturday Night Live.

The event is traditionally a roast of the President during an evening with the press, which dates back to the 1920s and Calvin Coolidge.

Alec commented: “Now that he’s not going to the White House Correspondents’ dinner, there are people lobbying to play Trump.”

When asked if he was a possible guest instead, the 58-year-old continued: “I wouldn’t say I’m not lobbying. People are saying, ‘Would you do it?’ There’s a lot of Donald Trump competition – I got sucked into this.”

Host Jimmy, 49, then encouraged: “It should be whoever the president hates seeing do it the most. And that’s undoubtedly you.”

During his interview, Alec also went on to reveal how the SNL skits came about with him playing then then-presidential candidate.

He originally told creator Lorne Michaels: “No, I don’t want to be Trump on TV, anytime you have any kind of mimicry it’s usually someone you appreciate.

“I didn’t say, ‘I hate Trump,’ I just said I didn’t want to do it. But, Tina [Fey] and Lorne kind of pushed me.”

Alec admitted that he had “no idea” what he was going to do even at 8pm before the first show, much to the shock of his interviewer and the audience.

He added: “I just said to myself, ‘Eyebrow up’. I tried to stick my face out, my mouth out. They put my wig on and it was like a scene from a mental hospital.”

The dinner will be held on April 29 minus President Trump, who previously tweeted: “I will not be attending… this year. Please wish everyone well and have a great evening!”
