A Place in the Sun’s Scarlette shuts down couple’s demands: ‘You cannot negotiate!’

The Channel 4 property show saw couple Caitlin and Simon travel to the picturesque location of Greek island Paros for Friday’s instalment in search of a relaxing retreat. The keen scuba-diving enthusiasts were keen to be near the beach and local amenities but had a fairly low budget, which made this a challenge for A Place in the Sun’s Scarlette, leading her to repeatedly warn the pair there was not much room to manoeuvre on cost, telling them: “You cannot negotiate!”

The pair wanted a holiday home with sea views of the crystal clear waters of the idyllic Greek island.

Simon and Caitlin had £140,000 to play with, which they said could go up to £150,000 – for the right property.

However, after viewing two properties, the pair were not impressed with the distance between the potential homes and nearby shops.

Summing up the house, Scarlette said: “Even though it isn’t too close to the beach and those all-important amenities, I think this two-bedroom apartment with a communal pool is a real gem of a property.”

“The property is amazing, it’s just a little bit too remote,” admitted Caitlin.

Scarlette quizzed the pair on the communal pool and Caitlin explained: “We love the communal pool but we’d drop it for amenities.”

The host said: “So with two properties and zero contenders so far, I know I’m going to have to work really hard to find something to suit my house-hunters.”

Scarlette realised she would have to change the type of homes she was showing the pair after their disappointment became clear.

She told the cameras: “I’m getting there property-wise but I need to up my game when it comes to location.”

But this was still too far from local facilities for the couple, leading them to comment on the issue once again.

Simon admitted: “We’re feeling a bit sheepish, I’m afraid.  it doesn’t make up for the lack of local amenities.”

Property number five was a hit with the couple but they faced another obstacle when they went to make an offer.

Despite the property being within their “wriggle-room” budget, they also noted it only had one bedroom.

The pair were met with a counter-offer from the seller of £147,000, leading them to up their original offer to £143,000.

However, there was no budge from the seller, which saw the pair have to make a sad decision about the house.

Simon gave their verdict, telling the host: “We have to leave it as it is… we have to draw the line somewhere.”

Scarlette told the guests: “I’m trying to hide my disappointment! I really thought that was the one.”

“As tempting as it is to pay what you want, you want to do what’s best for us,” added Simon, with the host wishing them the best of luck in their future property search.

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 4pm on Channel 4.
