As it has for years, its popularity speaks for itself: the Lexus RX is the original luxury crossover, and it’s still one of the best-selling members of the class. The RX’s easygoing driving dynamics, smooth ride quality, upscale interior, and flashy styling are all high on the priority list for many crossover shoppers. Facing an ever-growing array of equally stylish and similarly desirable rivals—some of which do the driving part better, too—has made the RX a tougher sell as it has aged. It’s not without merit, however, and its optional hybrid powertrain allows it to sip gas like a compact car. Other areas need some work, such as the infotainment system, which is a far cry from more modern offerings such as those in the Cadillac XT5 or the Audi Q5.
