The Micronesian archipelago of Palau lures tourists for its pristine beaches and tropical seclusion.
But one tourist had an unexpected surprise while exploring the holiday destination.
A long lost aircraft that crashed during World War Two was discovered in a shallow river off one of the islands.
It’s believed to be a Japanese Aichi E13A long range reconnaissance seaplane.
Though upside down under the water, the aircraft was eerily preserved, with both wings still firmly attached.
A striking image of the plane was uploaded to Reddit and Imgur after the holidaymaker stumbled across it.
Viewers of the photo were baffled as to the circumstances surrounding the crash.
One user wrote: “So peaceful looking there, can you imagine how crazy the crash must’ve been?
“Silence shattered, trees snapping, engine screaming, splash.”
Another shared: “If was the pilot that died with that plane, I’d be happy with my final resting spot. So beautiful and serene.”
One person said: “Looks like a movie set or the beginning or end of a novel.”
There are over 60 wrecks from WWII throughout Palau.
