Queen Elizabeth II is Britain’s most well-travelled monarch and she has been making official visits abroad since she was young.
As the most important member of the royal family her safety and security is absolutely paramount.
Bodyguards will always be by her side when she travels to keep her from harm.
However, there’s one very important person in particular who will always travel with the Queen.
Queen Elizabeth will always be accompanied by a Royal Navy doctor on her royal tours.
Royal reporter Gordon Rayner, who has been on 20 royal tours, explained the crucial role of the physician.
The Royal Navy doctor will have to research the nearest hospitals carefully in advance, he told The Telegraph.
He will also bring with him key equipment at all times in case an accident should occur.
The doctor will carry “a bulky medical bag containing a mobile defibrillator and all manner of emergency medicine,” he said.
The medical expert is said to be never more than a few steps away from the Queen while she is on royal engagements abroad.
The Queen is not the one member of the royal family to require such close attention.
Prince Charles, 69, who is first in line to the throne, will also always travel with a Royal Navy doctor.
The Prince and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, 71, were accompanied by a medical expert on their recent trip to the Gambia.
Both Prince Charles and the Queen also pack a very interesting item when travelling abroad.
If the senior royals are visiting a country where a reliable blood supply is questionable, then a pack of their own blood will be included, always following in their convoy.
This is in case a blood transfusion should be necessary without their health being jeopardised.
Younger members of the royal family do not travel with a Royal Navy doctor, however.
Instead of travelling with their own medics, Prince Harry, 34, and Prince William, 36, will have local doctors assigned to them.
Royals also have to be sure to pack something specific if they are going away – and the reason is rather tragic.
They will need a black outfit in case a member of the royal family dies while she is travelling. This means they can then be seen to show their respects and be in mourning on the day it happens.
This rule applies to all members of the royal family so they are fully prepared with the appropriate attire.
