WATCH: Shocking moment tourists are nearly hit by flying beach umbrellas in whirlwind

Turkey beachgoers were left stunned and afraid after violent gusts of wind sent beach umbrellas and deckchairs hurtling through the air towards them, a shocking viral video has shown.

The alarming clip captured the moment strong winds pummelled the seaside tourist town of Kas in Antalya Province, southwestern Turkey.

A holidaymaker filmed the footage which recorded the grey skies and choppy seas ahead of the incident that left them cowering for protection

As the video captures the scene at the private beach, beach parasols suddenly shoot up in the air, plucked up by the gale, and hurtle towards the person filming and another woman.

Deckchair cushions also fly into the air as sea water violently sprays onto the private beach.

The person filming is forced to hide behind a beach umbrella to protect themselves from the falling objects.

The whirlwind formed roughly two kilometres from the shore and increased in size and strength as it shifted towards the beach, reported MailOnline.

It’s believed to have altered direction after the umbrellas and deckchairs were hurled into the air.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported from the incident at the Turkish resort.

The Meteorology General Directorate in Turkey had previously alerted beachgoers in the area to the risk of strong winds and rain.

It emerged today that Turkey inflation rates soared to nearly 25 per cent in September, marking the highest levels since President Recep Tayyip Erdogan came to power and putting further pressure on the lira.

The lira has depreciated as much as 1.6 per cent since the official figures were released this morning, according to Bloomberg.

This is good news for Britons as UK holidaymakers can now benefit from the better exchange rate against the pound.

This means shopping, food and drink costs will be much lower in comparison.

To make the most of the cheap rates, travellers are urged to use prepaid currency cards.

Prepaid cards lock in the current exchange rate when topping them up – with the rates so low, they could improve before holidays.

Tourism in Turkey has struggled in recent years following a number of terrorist attacks and a failed political coup, but statistics show it’s now returning as a favourite of UK holidaymakers.

Thomas Cook has experienced a 63 per cent increase in holiday bookings to Turkey this year.

Its airport Antalya has even overtaken Spain’s Palma de Mallorca as Thomas Cook’s most-served airport for UK travellers. There are 57 flights a week to the former and just 41 to the latter.

Last month, hotel comparison site, trivago examined the price of hotel rooms for the night to identify the best bargain breaks on the continent – and the Turkish capital of Istanbul was named the second cheapest city for a hotel city break, as hotel rooms are, on average, £71 a night.
