The knife attack in Paris took place late last night in the Quai de la Loire district of the city.
A man was arrested following the incident in the French capital after attacking seven people, two thought to be British tourists who have chest and head injuries according to French media.
According to French police, the attack is not being deemed terror-related at this stage following the man’s arrest.
With two British tourists reportedly in hospital, is the city still safe for travel?
An eyewitness at the scene in Paris told the BBC that people tried to stop the attackers by throwing balls at him.
Eyewitness Youssef Najah, 28 said: “There were around 20 people chasing him. They started throwing pétanque balls at him […] but they weren’t able to stop him.”
The Mayor of Paris thanked the Brigade Anti-Criminalite (BAC) in a tweet.
Anne Hidalgo wrote: “I extend my full support and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured six that night in the 19th arrondissement, in an attack.
“I would like to thank the agents of the BAC for their responsiveness and professionalism.”
The UK Foreign Office said in a statement: “We are urgently investigating this incident and are in close contact with the French authorities.”
They still deem the area “trouble-free” for the 17 million British tourists who visit the country every year.
However, terrorists are “very likely” to carry out attacks in the region, especially to British nationals, following a spate of attacks in recent years.
In November 2015, a series of attacks took place across the region, including the Bataclan shooting and Stade de France bombings, killing 130 people.
Earlier this year in March, a man killed four people in Carcassonne.
The latest terrorist attack advice from the National Counterterrorism Security Office advises Britons to “Run, Hide, Tell”.
Their latest video warns travellers to run from the attack and the danger when it comes to light.
They should then hide in a quiet space and make sure the entrances are barricaded.
When they are sure they are far enough away from the danger, they should contact the police and explain the location and any details of the attacker.
When law enforcement enters, those involved should walk towards them and stay calm, listening to their instructions.
