If the styling of the Maserati GranTurismo is a bit passé for your tastes, Italian design house Touring Superleggera may have just the cure with the Sciàdipersia. The coachbuilt sports coupe uses the mechanicals of the GranTurismo but updates the grand touring coupe’s decade-old styling with a new look. Limited to just 10 units, the Sciàdipersia is a homage to the 1958 Maserati 5000GT, a limited-production model built by Touring Superleggera at the behest of the shah of Iran. Unlike the custom-bodied 5000GT, which mated the chassis of the six-cylinder Maserati 3500GT road car with the engine from the eight-cylinder Maserati 450S race car, the Sciàdipersia maintains the 454-hp 4.7-liter V-8 engine from the GranTurismo.

Like a lot of haute couture, the hand-built Sciàdipersia isn’t necessarily beautiful, but it certainly makes a bold statement with its distinct front-end treatment, wraparound rear glass, and bright metal C-pillars that wrap over the roof.

Touring Superleggera notes that pricing for the Sciàdipersia is available “upon request,” which is a nice way of saying, “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.”
