Every two years, the world stops to watch a sporting event like no other. The Olympics are, in theory, a three-week period where we all set aside our differences to celebrate the best athletes around the globe. It’s an event that allows people to take pride in their country; to feel joy and excitement.
But as I watched the opening ceremony for this year’s Winter Olympics, I felt none of those things. Rather, I felt numb as I watched the hundreds of thousands of athletes walk through the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium. Every time the camera panned over the face of a smiling athlete, I couldn’t help but wonder, “what have you had to sacrifice to get here?” “Have you been hurt?” “Have you been told to stay quiet?”See the rest of the story at Business Insider
