Passport fees vary depending on how quickly you need one and what kind of travel document you choose.
The cost of a passport also varies depending on your age, with cheaper prices for children (under 16) compared to adults (over 16).
However, you may be confused by the option of an adult standard 32 page passport compared to an adult jumbo 48 page passport.
A standard adult passport costs £72.50, while a jumbo adult passport costs more, priced at £85.50.
What is a jumbo passport?
Jumbo passports, also known as eJumbos, have 48 pages compared with the 32 pages of a normal passport.
They were introduced in 2007 by the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) to accommodate frequent travellers.
They are designed for those who travel a lot and need more space than most for their various visa.
When they were introduced, the then Home Office Minister Joan Ryan said the jumbo passport would be a “popular alternative” to the regular model.
“The Identity and Passport Service is now offering frequent travellers the new ‘jumbo’ 48 page ePassport.
“We are a nation of seasoned travellers, and issue more passports than any other country in the world bar the United States.
“80 per cent of the UK population now holds a passport, and a record 6.6 million were issued last year alone.
“The ‘eJumbo’ will provide a popular alternative to the standard ePassport for Brits regularly travelling abroad, be it for work or pleasure.”
Other lesser known forms of passports include the group passport, also known as a collective passport.
This is used by groups of youths travelling together, including on school trips or from youth organisations like Scouts.
It also access into certain European countries, including France, Belgium and Spain.
A group leader and deputy leader must also be present, who have British passports, are UK residents and aged over 21 years.
