Road traffic warning: Your car journey could increase FIVEFOLD if you travel at this time

The worst time for road traffic this Christmas has been revealed.

An expert has said Thursday afternoon this week will be the worst time for traffic, with the peak traffic at around 2:30pm – and it’s worse on specific routes.

Thursday afternoon could see journeys on the popular motorway M6 Southbound increase by five times, according to Dr Graham Cookson, chief economist at transportation analysts Inrix.

Drivers travelling at this hour on the M6 Southbound will be plagued by horrific road congestion.

“People are creatures of habit, and they start journeys in the afternoon,” said the expert.

However, those travelling earlier may already be in hot water.

“Any time from Wednesday afternoon onwards is going to be bad,” the expert told The Independent.

Cookson also revealed the worst road for Christmas traffic in the whole of the UK.

He said the A303 near the famous site of Stonehenge will be plagued by “horrendous” road congestion.

“Most people heading from the South-east to the South-west, towards Devon and Cornwall, will venture down the A303, unfortunately.”

He added there were “13 hours of tailbacks last Christmas” on this route.

Journeys on the M25 around London and the M6 in the Midlands and North-West would also be affected, he said.

He warned of “doubled and tripled journey times” for drivers travelling on these routes over the festive period.

What is road rage? Road rage is characterised as a motorist getting angry by the actions of someone else.

A viral video recently showed a road rage induced fight between a driver and a cyclist.

The cyclist smashed in the car boot window of the driver after they had a row.

The driver then retaliated by running after the cyclist and whacking him over the head with a bongo.
