Your 4K TV is set for a major boost as Apple rumoured to be planning a major announcement

When many were surprised that it didn’t feature the ability to play 4K Ultra HD content.

This latest format is four times the resolution of standard HD and, with 4K TVs plummeting in price, is fast becoming the way most consumers want to view content.

Until now Apple TV has not been compatible with 4K programming but that looks like it could be about to change.

An eagle-eyed member of the team at MacRumours has spotted something exciting on Apple’s iTunes store and it could give a big indication that Ultra HD is coming to the US technology firm’s set-to box.

According the report, iTunes is beginning to list movies as supporting 4K and HDR in users’ purchase histories.

This could mean that these formats will become available soon although it’s worth noting that Apple currently doesn’t feature any 4K movies in its catalogue of films and TV shows.

Moving to 4K would make perfect sense for Apple as many of its rivals have already begun broadcasting in this ultimate format.

Sky, Amazon and Netflix all allow content to be viewed in Ultra HD and a 4K Apple TV would be hugely popular especially with consumers switching to 4K sets.

The Apple TV hasn’t been updated since 2015 so a new model is widely expected.

Apple is likely to have a major launch event in September where it looks set to unveil its new iPhone 8 and this could also be the ideal time to announce a new Apple TV.

Apple TV and the iPhone 8 aren’t the only new products set to be unveiled later this year.

The US technology firm announced in June that it is launching a new iMac Pro and HomePod speaker.

The iMac Pro will be the most powerful iMac Apple has ever created and will include up to 18-core Xeon processors and up to 22 Teraflops of graphics computation.

This new machine also features a stunning 27-inch Retina 5K display and all-new Space Grey colour.

The keyboard and mouse also comes in this new design.

Meanwhile the in the battle of the smart speakers.

Apple’s HomePod will play music and search the web via Siri’s voice control and includes a superior sound experience to current smart speakers

The HomePod’s curved mesh design is packed with an upward-facing woofer and seven beam-forming tweeters making it sound loud, clear and booming with room-shaking bass.

Similar to Trueplay found in Sonos speakers, the HomePod also features automatic room-sensing technology which allows it to quickly learn its position in your home and optimise the sound accordingly.

It’s clever stuff and should help to boost the sound experience even further when it finally launches in time for Christmas.
