You could claim £200 back from your energy bills – THIS is how

Consumers could reclaim £1.3 billion in total from energy companies after the winter.

If customers haven’t used energy that they have paid for over the colder months they are entitled that money back.

On average customers are owned £117 back from their energy supplier.

Almost one in ten could claim more than £200 from their provider.

However, four in ten will cover the cost of prince hikes implemented by the companies – even when the are unknowingly in their rights to get money back.

How can you claim your money back?

If you were paying your bills by direct debit you are in the perfect position to claim your money back.

Millions paying this way have overpaid.

Submit meter readings to the supplier and reclaim any credit owed, uSwitch.com has urged consumers.

This is how a roll of plastic wrap could save you hundreds on your heating bills.

“Consumers who are unsure about the status of their account after the winter should check their electricity and gas meters, submit up-to-date readings and find out if they are in credit.

“Under Ofgem rules, customers are entitled to any credit on request, as long as up-to-date meter readings have been provided,” they said.

USwitch.com compiled the data, revealing Brits who are concerned about energy bills should be looking to claim.

Almost a third of customers admitted they will struggle to pay increased energy bills, while more than one in five said increases of £100 or more will force them into debt.

uSwitch.com is urging customers to submit regular meter readings throughout the year, to help guarantee accurate bills and avoid building up significant credit or debt.

Claire Osborne, uSwitch.com energy expert, says: “Consumers should submit an up-to-date meter reading now to find out if they’re owed cash from their energy supplier.

“Providers must repay any credit on request, so now is the time to read your meter, update your account and reclaim what you’re owed.

“Consumers who are building up credit to soften the blow of price hikes should instead consider reclaiming this money and switching to a cheaper deal.

“With an average credit refund of £117 and savings of over £350 by switching supplier, it could be a very effective way to control spiralling energy bills.”
