Xbox One news: Games with Gold August 2017, Call of Duty WW2 reveal, Injustice 2 Starfire

The new Games With Gold August 2017 lineup of titles looks set to be announced by Microsoft this week.

While the tech giant haven’t indicated a day to watch out for the big reveal, they do usually make sure to have it out by the last week of the month.

It gives gamers plenty of time to download whatever titles they haven’t nabbed from the previous month, with the likes of Grow Up, Runbow and LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean still available.

For reference, last month saw the official Games with Gold lineup announced on June 27, the last Tuesday of the month.

If Microsoft want to do the same this month, we could see an announcement made by tomorrow.

So far there has been no known leaks of what could be included for August 2017 but many fans will be hoping for some top AAA games.

Picking a winner between Microsoft’s Gold and Sony’s PS Plus selections was a difficult task last month, because while the PS4 had a higher profile lineup, the Xbox One Games with Gold releases had higher ratings on Metacritic.

Grow Up has a Metascore of 74%, and has been called everything from “more of the same” to a “mini masterpiece”.

Runbow, which hasn’t been reviewed on Xbox One, has a Metascore of 82% and has been described as one of the best local multiplayer games.

With a rating of just 69%, Game of Thrones –  A Telltale Series has the lowest score of the lot. One site likens it to big budget fan fiction.

Then there’s Until Dawn, which has a Metascore of 79%. Even though it’s described as cheesy and ham-fisted, reviewers generally enjoyed the interactivity and jump scares.

The new Call of Duty WW2 Nazi Zombies trailer went live earlier this week during a San Diego Comic-Con panel, hosted by Sledgehammer.

The development team provided more details on the new storyline for this year’s Zombies mode, with players embarking on a treasure hunt in Germany.

“Sledgehammer Games delivers an original and terrifying new co-op survival experience in Call of Duty: WWII Nazi Zombies,” the official description teases.

“Players will embark on a chilling and mysterious journey through a snowy Bavarian village in Mittelburg, Germany, as they attempt to recover priceless works of art stolen by the Axis powers in World War II.

“This village holds a shadowy secret key to an unimaginable and monstrous power.

“Nothing is as it seems in this zombies horror, as a dark and sinister plot unfolds to unleash an invincible Nazi army of the dead.”

Members of its all-star cast of characters were also revealed, which in full includes David Tennant, Elodie Yung, Katheryn Winnick, Udo Kier and Ving Rhames.

Launching on November 3rd as part of Call of Duty: WWII, the Nazi Zombies cooperative mode delivers is hoping to deliver a sinister original story from Sledgehammer Games, who have dabbled in the horror genre before.

“With Nazi Zombies, we’re creating a frightening world full of terrifying characters and events that will make you jump and look over your shoulder. There’s an incredible amount of myth and lore, which our team has poured through in our development,” said Glen Schofield, Studio Head and Co-Founder of Sledgehammer Games.

“This is unlike anything before, we’re taking players to some very dark, grim places in Nazi Zombies. This is one hell of a horror experience.”

Michael Condrey, Studio Head and Co-Founder of Sledgehammer Games added, “We couldn’t be more excited to showcase our reveal of Nazi Zombies here at San Diego Comic Con.

“It’s been great to return to creating a horror-based experience, and with Call of Duty, head back to the Nazi Zombies roots. The team at the studio is proud of the opportunity to deliver something special for the fans.”

The Injustice 2 Starfire release date has been set for August, developers NetherRealm have confirmed.

Starfire has been expected as the last DLC character of Fighter Pack 1, having been preceded by Red Hood and Sub-Zero.

The Tamaranean warrior-princess was one of many new characters teased back in March, with fans also expecting Black Manta and Raiden to arrive at a later date.

“As the next Queen of Tamaran, Princess Koriand’r found herself the victim of her fratricidal sister’s vengeful plot that resulted in their planet being conquered,” the official character description explains.

“Now a royal exile on Earth, Koriand’r uses her ability to absorb and convert ultraviolet energy as Starfire.”

Like past DLC launches, Starfire will likely arrive mid-month and will playable first for those who bought the special version of the game.

This will likely be followed by a full launch the followed week, meaning some fans could be waiting a little while longer.

It follows news of a new Injustice 2 PS4 and Xbox One DLC character leak.

The fourth fighter being added to the game looks to be Black Manta, following a Reddit user posting an image from the Xbox Store.

A tagline from the screenshot advertises playing as Black Manta in Injustice 2, which would fit in nicely with recent reports suggesting just that.

If Black Manta is added to the game in the future, it will be as part of the new DLC Fighter Pack 2, which has yet to be revealed by Netherrealm Studios.
