While December hasn’t been filled with new Xbox One Backwards Compatibility updates, it has still seen some new releases.
And checking the official Xbox websites, we can confirm that the final games have now all been launched in 2017.
Xbox’s Major Nelson himself has confirmed that no more announcements are being planned for December, although more will arrive in 2018.
“After releasing 136 Xbox 360, 13 Original Xbox & 7 enhanced Xbox 360 titles in 2017, the Xbox One Backward Compatibility team is taking some time off for the holidays.
“Releases resume after New Year. Thank you for all of your support this year.”
This could mean more enhanced Xbox 360 games appearing on Microsoft’s Xbox One X as well.
Currently, fans can enjoy these titles in an upgraded form on Microsoft’s new console: Gears of War 3, Fallout 3, Mirror’s Edge, Assassin’s Creed, Skate 3, Oblivion, and Halo 3.
This could be where Microsoft goes next with their Backwards Compatibility projects, a neat way for them to offer something new to Xbox One X owners, via Games with Gold.
This month saw a number of releases that will be the final ones of 2017, with most recent launches adding a total of four new games to play on Xbox One.
Xbox’s Larry Hryb confirmed that both Earth Defense Force 2017 and Sonic Adventure 2 are now playable away from their original platform of the Xbox 360.
Sonic Adventure 2 is the most popular of the two, having received over 12,000 votes for its inclusion on the official BC leaderboards.
Earth Defense Force 2017 has a much lower vote count but is also a little less well-known.
The third-person shooter developed by Sandlot is actually an Xbox 360 exclusive, originally launched back in 2006.
“Planet Earth is under attack from alien invaders, and the EDF is our only chance for survival,” the official game description explains.
“Grab your gun, join your squad and repel the attacking forces. You are Earth’s last line of defense!
“Already a smash hit in Japan, the Earth Defense Force series comes to the US for the first time in this action-packed, arcade-style, action-shooter.”
Microsoft also launched two other games, with Peggle 2 and Marlow Briggs and the Mask of the Death available to download and play on Xbox One and Xbox One X.
Peggle 2 is the most requested of the two, earning over 1,000 votes on the official Backwards Compatible leaderboards.
Microsoft have not hinted at what could come next to the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program, although fans will be hoping for more original Xbox games popping up soon.
