X Factor 2018: Simon Cowell and Ayda Field in heated SPAT over contestant

Nathan Grisdale from Blackburn took to The X Factor stage in a bid to impress the judges in scenes that will be shown this evening.

The glasses-wearing 23-year-old appeared to be quite nervous as he stood in front of the panel.

Nathan’s nerves caused him to discuss a lot of his animals, revealing he is allergic to cats but has over 10 dogs.

The judges seemed to really like Nathan, and asked what he would be singing, to which the youngster replied with Andra Day’s Rise Up.

Nathan stunned the audience with his performance, but the hopeful left the judges with a mixed response.

Louis Tomlinson, 26, gushed: “You have an amazing tone. Your voice…

“I know for a fact if there ever comes a time when you come to record, I think it’s going to sound incredible on track.”

The former One Direction star went on to claim how excited he was at the potential of getting the boys group because of Nathan.

Ayda Field, 39, agreed, calling his audition a “moment”, but Robbie Wililams, 44, claimed Nathan didn’t push himself hard enough, only producing a “six”.

The fiesty American called for the audience to boo her husband over what he said, but the spat continued as Simon Cowell, 58, got involved.

The judge said: “I know where Robbie’s going with this. We’ve said this before about personality.”

Ayda snapped: “He’s got personality, he’s got 85 French bulldogs.

“I love your personality,” she told Nathan. “Because it’s not in your face, its kind of quirky, cute and funny.”

Nathan explained how he was just feeling “awkward” about the audition, to which Ayda shouted back: “I love awkward. Awkward is good.”

Simon and Robbie looked at each other, clearly deciding on where to go from here.

But will Nathan get the yeses he needs to progress through the competition?

Last night’s X Factor saw Simon Cowell blasted by fans who thought there was another “fix”.

Giovanni Spano performed an energetic rock song, but the judge insisted it wasn’t good enough and made him sing another.

The second song saw him safely through to the next round of the competition.

X Factor continues tonight on ITV at 8pm.
