X Factor viewers tuned in to see the first live shows of the series kick off earlier this evening.
However, moments into the show, host Dermot O’Leary, 45, was forced to apologise for a technical fault and epic blunder, which both came within seconds of each other.
The voiceover introduced Danny Tetley as Anthony Russel then as he began singing his first note, the band abruptly stopped the music.
Those watching at home saw the contestant stop-mid performance before restarting his song once again.
Following a stellar performance, the judges commented on the mishap.
Louis Tomlinson, 26, said: “The pressure of what just happened to you. You picked yourself up an delivered that vocal. Well done.”
Aya Field, 39, his mentor for the Overs category added: “That song is all about the fight. You came out fighting from the top!”
Simon Cowell, 59, gave words of encouragement and remarked: “Danny, don’t feel bad about what happened, it will make you better.”
Viewers then saw Dermot apologise for the error: “Yes, sorry about that Danny.”
But Danny wasn’t put off by the incident and said: “These things are set to try us.”
Discussing his performance he called it “nerve wracking” but insisted it was a “wonderful experience”
Despite the incident, fans rallied in support for Danny.
“#XFactor Danny just smashed that in spite of the stupid mistake of them calling him the wrong name which unsurprisingly threw him.
“But fair play to him, he got back up and started again,” one said.
Another added: “Pretty rubbish that someone could mess up like that pressing the wrong button and announcing the wrong person (and playing Anthony’s pre-recorded track, anyone else hear that?) fair play to Danny though #XFactor.”
“#XFactor suffering technical difficulties. Wrong announcement for Danny Tetley and the screens behind are on a delay,” a viewer noticed.
A fourth tweeted: “Nah I feel bad for Danny you know. Waited all that time for his moment and the announce f*cks it up #XFactor.”
“LMAO did they just introduce Danny as Anthony Russel??? HAHHAH #XFactor,” one viewer tweeted.
X Factor fans will have to wait until tomorrow’s live results night to see whether Danny is through to week two.
In the meantime, Danny and the other contestants are battling it out to establish there identity for the theme This Is Me Week.
X Factor 2018 returns tomorrow night at 8pm on ITV.
