According to sources, Simon Cowell, 57, thinks that The X Factor would miss out on great talent too much if they were to get rid of so many hopefuls in one go.
An insider explained: ”There is some great talent on the show this year.
“Simon thinks it’s unfair to cut the numbers so drastically when contestants are doing so well,” they added to The Sun.
A spokesperson for the ITV show confirmed: “This weekend’s show will feature one act leaving on Saturday and one act leaving on Sunday.”
The latest news comes after Nicole Scherzinger, 39, announced that she had been asked to return to the show next year, despite rumours suggesting she could be being replaced by Cheryl.
The singer said on The Jonathan Ross Show: “I’d love to come back if y’all would have me back. They have asked me back so hopefully everything will work out.”
“When I commit to The X Factor I put 1000 per cent into it, so all of my energy, I don’t get to do music or be in the studio which is my heart, all of my energy goes into the contestants so I’m just focusing on this year, not messing up and hopefully having another winner,” she continued.
Media mogul Simon had previously appeared to hint that ex-judge Cheryl could be set to make a proper return to the series next year.
The X Factor continues tomorrow at 8.10pm on ITV.
