Chatting on the red carpet at last night’s London premiere, she opened up on what it has been like to get to know one of the most famous people in the world.
“To work with Miss Oprah has been amazing,” she said. “To have her in my corner and inspire me and uplift me has been amazing.”
Speaking to the Daily Mail, she added: “But she told me, ‘don’t waste your energy on things you can’t change in life when you can use that energy on something that’s positive.’
“So that’s become my life motto!”
The Disney movie, which opened at No2 at the US box office over the weekend, is out in the UK on Friday.
Reid said of its message: “I just want people to be inspired – not only young girls but young people in general and I just want them to know they can do anything they want to do and they are beautiful and they are smart.”
A Wrinkle In Time has had a very mixed response from critics, and currently holds a 42% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Amongst audiences, it has a lower 37% score – but its CinemaScore is a more encouraging B grade, with an A- score amongst under 18s.
Reid and Winfrey aren’t the only big names involved: Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and Chris Pine are also on the cast.
Ava DuVernay is the director; the first black woman to direct a live-action film with a budget of over $ 100 million.
